Medium Pressure Wash-Down System

A local meat rendering plant engaged Flow Industries to work with them to install a medium pressure wash down system [25 bar] to reduce their water consumption used for wash down and also their cleaning times, as they were running two ten-hour shifts a day which left very minimal time for the cleaning process at the site. Flow Industries worked with the site engineers to design the system, which involved using 23 bar water pressure over against the original 4 bar pressure system, to provide better cleaning performance and faster cleaning for the site. The biggest spin-off for this project was once the 30 hoses were installed, these new hoses only used 30 litres per minute each, over against the 60 to 80 litres per minute conventional hoses. This resulted in massive water savings for the plant, both on the water they brought for the site and on their trade waste discharged which they pay for. Flow Industries installed stainless steel tubing throughout the roof spaces and down to each hose point through the site's primary and secondary process areas. This also included an actuator manifold which turned off the wash-down points during production. A large triplex Grundfos pump set was installed by Flow Industries, which carried out the pressure rating increase of the water from 4 bar to 23 bar. This new washdown system continues to be used by the cleaning team at the site and is looking to be expanded into other areas in the future.
