Following some concerns from the school’s management regarding the safety of the laboratory and gas systems on the high school site, Flow Industries was engaged to complete a survey of all potential gas safety risks onsite, then asked to rectify them. This involved testing all of the in-ground mains, and verifying the safety of the gas reticulation systems within the building to hot water heaters, boilers, and also all laboratories. One point of interest was the bio labs and chemistry labs had gas pipework to all the Bunsen burner taps within the lab, but no safety crash system in case of gas leakage into the classroom or a fire or explosion. Flow Industries designed, supplied and installed a safety crash system which included emergency stop buttons along with solenoids that isolated the gas supply to both laboratories. This was certified, tested and installed by Flow Industries onsite during the holiday shut-down period.
